Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians (SSSC) Outstanding Mentor Award (Instructions)

Instructions

Eligibility

Current NCI Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians who serve as mentors may be nominated, with the exception of those who have received the award within the last five years. See here for a complete list of previous winners. If you are not certain whether or not someone is eligible, please e-mail ncimentorawards@mail.nih.gov

Review Criteria

To evaluate each nomination, the review committee will consider four separate criteria which address the quality of the nominee’s mentoring: communication, accessibility, communication, mentoring environment, provision of visibility for trainees, and commitment to trainee career development. See the nomination form for further details.

Procedure

  • Each nominee must have ONE primary and ONE secondary nomination. The Primary nominator is responsible for enlisting a Secondary nominator. Incomplete nominations will not be reviewed and extra nominations will not be reviewed.
  • The Primary nominator must be a current postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, or clinical fellow, or intern (or recent fellow, i.e., departed NIH within the last 12 months).
  • The Secondary nominator may be a current or former fellow or student, or other trainee with appropriate knowledge of the nominee.
  • The Primary nominator will be asked to identify the name and email address of the Secondary nominator. Please make sure to include the correct email address or the Secondary nominator will be unable to complete their portion. Note: Primary nominators should only score and write a narrative for their individual form. Do not include narrative and scoring for the Secondary nominator.
  • Secondary nominators will receive a link to complete their portion of the nomination package.
  • Each nominator must use their individual nomination form to complete the nomination.
  • Nominations are only considered complete when both primary and secondary nominations are received.
