Overview
Think Tank on Advancing Gastric Cancer Prevention
National Cancer Institute at Shady Grove
9609 Medical Center Drive, Joseph F. Fraumeni Jr. Conference Room (TE-406/8/10), Rockville, MD 20850, United States
Friday, May 17, 2024, 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Background: Gastric (stomach) cancer is a leading cause of death in the United States (US). The cancer burden, however, is differentially distributed across racial/ethnic groups, with non-White individuals exhibiting the highest incidence and mortality rates. Because of the lack of epidemiologic and clinical studies on underserved US population groups, only limited data on relevant risk factors of those most affected are available to inform evidence-based gastric cancer control, prevention, and intervention efforts.
The aim of the Think Tank is to provide a forum for a multidisciplinary group of gastric cancer experts to review the state of the science and collaboratively identify critical knowledge gaps. If successful, the meeting summary will augment the national and international research agendas in gastric cancer prevention and control.
Format: The event will be a highly interactive meeting of attendees, moderators, and speakers with diverse perspectives. The morning sessions (in-person and live stream) will cover the current state of clinical and epidemiological gastric cancer prevention and control research and resources, using a “lightning talks” approach with 10-minute presentations. The morning sessions will lay the groundwork for the afternoon session of the meeting, where 60-minute guided small group discussions will take place among in-person participants to address the challenge of prioritization of research needs that will best serve at-risk populations.
Extramural and intramural participants: Clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates
