On behalf of the NCI planning committee, thank you for registering for the 2024 DCCPS Fellows Symposium that will be held in-person at Shady Grove with opportunities to attend virtually.

All staff and contractors are welcome to attend and support our fellows.

All DCCPS Fellows (full-time) and Summer Interns are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts to present on a topic of choice and may decide to submit a Mentor of the Year nomination. Full-time Fellows may choose to present an oral or poster presentation, while summer interns will only have the option to present a poster that can be used at the NIH Summer Poster Day on August 1-2. Note these important dates: Full-time fellows abstracts and nominations due: June 7, 2024; Summer interns abstracts and nominations due: June 28, 2024.

As part of the symposium, a DCCPS mentor will be given a Mentor of the Year award based on nominations from fellows. Please consider nominating a DCCPS staff person for this award. Note: 1) The nominee must be a current DCCPS staff person but doesn't have to be your primary mentor; 2) Nominations will be reviewed by a committee comprised of DCCPS training staff; 3) Your nomination will only be seen by the committee.

In the box below, please explain why you think this person should be given the award and consider the following when making your nomination (500 words or 3,300 characters max):

  1. Access: Describe the ways the nominee is available, accessible, and willing to meet with trainees on a regular basis and when needed.
  2. Communication: Describe if/how the nominee provides constructive feedback so that trainees increase their scientific development.
  3. Promoting Success: Describe how the nominee enhances the training experience and contributes to trainees' success in the population sciences. Include how the nominee demonstrates commitment to career development of fellows to help them prepare for and meet their career objectives.
  4. Recognition: Describe how the nominee gives credit to fellows and promotes the visibility of their work, either formally or informally.
  5. Outstanding Actions: Describe how the nominee provides additional guidance and advice that make a substantive difference in fellows' professional lives.
