Overview
The Cancer Neuroscience and Symptoms Workshop is a two-day virtual workshop taking place on November 16 - 17, 2026.
Convened by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) - National Institutes of Health (NIH), the workshop will provide a forum focused on the neuropathogenesis of cancer symptoms, with emphasis on three linked aims: address knowledge gaps, identify exploitable molecular targets, and develop intervention strategies for prevention and treatment of cancer symptoms and long-term sequelae. The workshop is organized around a unifying question: how do nervous system–cancer interactions produce clinically overt symptoms across the cancer continuum. The workshop is intentionally interdisciplinary and connects basic neuroscience, cancer biology, immunology, and clinical symptom science.
Workshop Goals
- Define the most important scientific questions at the intersection of cancer neuroscience and symptom science.
- Clarify where mechanistic insight is strongest, where major knowledge gaps remain, and where new human-based methods are most needed.
- Produce a practical agenda for future collaborative research and translational development.
