On behalf of the Center for Global Health and the Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM) of the National Cancer Institute of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NCI-NIH), welcome to the Trans-NCI-NIH Conference on International Perspective on Integrative Medicine for Cancer Prevention and Cancer Patient Management. The main aims of the conference are: to 1) discuss the integration of traditional, complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) with conventional cancer prevention and treatment approaches in global health, thus forming new approaches to integrative oncology, and 2) discuss approaches for strengthening Integrative Oncology research in low-and-middle-income-countries (LMICs).
The conference will offer a venue to discuss major public health needs, and to describe current research and development efforts in global cancer integrative oncology. There will be opportunities to examine the state of the science in integrative medicine, learn about practices, training, delivery approaches successes and challenges, promising scientific and technological developments. Finally, the conference is intended to facilitate scientific collaborations and interactions, to foster the development of new research programs in this important field. We hope that these discussions engage all meeting attendees in the exploration of persistent challenges and emerging opportunities facing the field of integrative oncology.
On behalf of the NCI/NIH program staff, our international partners and everyone involved in the planning for this meeting, we thank you for your participation, your interest, and the important work you all do to assist in our collective mission against cancer. We look forward to an exciting and productive meeting.
