NCI Symposium on Translational Technology for Global Health (Overview)

Overview

Join us for an exciting symposium to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of NCI funding projects in the Affordable Cancer Technologies (ACTs) program. Since the first grants were funded in the Fall of 2014, the ACTs Program has supported resource-appropriate translational technology research and development for cancer, while ensuring affordability and potential impact in low-resource settings as essential design components. The ACTs Program develops technology through every stage, from prototype to clinical implementation studies. Technologies are validated in real-world health settings in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), leading to additional innovations. Examples of important elements include technologies that can be used by minimally trained health workers, are appropriate at the clinical point of need, or are adaptable to diverse environmental conditions and health systems.

This two-day conference will bring together researchers, technology developers, clinicians, and industry partners from NCI funded grants and contracts seeking to develop and translate new and emerging technologies for global oncology, regulatory administrators, non-government organization (NGO) leaders, and diverse stakeholder groups to discuss complementary expertise and resources to accelerate global health technology innovation, validation, and commercialization.

The agenda will include plenary panels of ACTs investigators, scientists from complementary programs, stakeholders from industry, and luminaries from across the USG and other global oncology stakeholder groups. We also plan to host a technology showcase, where symposium participants will interact first-hand with technologies being developed in these programs.
