2021 Symposium Recap

The 9th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research was held as a satellite meeting to the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Annual Conference on March 10-11, 2021. The virtual format allowed for diverse participation by over 400 attendees from 70 countries, 29 speakers from 12 countries, and presentation of research conducted in 68 countries.

The two-day program focused on fundamental issues of equity and resilience based on events of 2020 and 2021, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the global movement for racial equity. Its purpose was to integrate and disseminate current scientific knowledge in global cancer control and to support global scientific collaboration. In addition, 98 accepted scientific abstracts and an editorial were published in a special issue of AACR’s Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. Key sessions that took place during the Symposium included:

Day 1 - March 10, 2021 (Link to recording)

  • Building Towards Resilience in Cancer Care, Control, and Research Panel focused on building towards resilient health systems and addressing critical gaps and emergent threats to cancer prevention and control in LMICs
  • Rapid Fire Oral Abstract Presentations for 10 of the highest scoring accepted scientific abstracts

Day 2 - March 11, 2021 (Link to recording)

  • Building Towards Equity Panel focused on translational gaps between science conducted in LMICs and building effective partnerships and robust community engagement
