Scientific Posters

Download our Quick Start Gather Guide

To Meet the Abstract Authors: Interactive Poster Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, April 5th from 10:20AM ET to 11:00AM ET and Thursday, April 6th from 10:20AM ET to 11:15AM ET via Gather, an immersive web-based platform that allows participants to move and interact freely within a virtual space.

Following the scientific sessions on Day 2 and Day 3, attendees will be directed to Gather to view posters and engage with abstract presenters. The live Gather link will be available to Symposium registrants the week of the Symposium and will be shared during the Symposium.

Gather: How does it work?

Gather is a 2D replica of real spaces chosen and designed by the event organizer. In an 8-bit pixelized world which look like a video game, each participant moves its avatar freely using the pointer arrows of the computer keyboard. When avatars approach one another, participants can talk to each other through a video call, launched automatically.

Right now, Gather is best supported in Chrome and Firefox on a desktop. Safari on desktop is in beta has limited support. You may also use Gather on your smart phone or tablet. Your experience may vary slightly based on your device's operating system and browser. Visit Gather's help page for more information on Gather Mobile.

For our virtual poster sessions, we created 6 interconnected spaces:

  • A main conference hall where participants will automatically join.
  • 5 poster halls organized by topic
  • Room and poster number are listed alongside posters below.
  • Refer to one of the information boards in the main hall to locate a poster.
  • Symposium organizers will be at the help desk to answer any questions during the sessions.

For Everyone: Entering Gather

  • Enter the Gather space by clicking the Gather link.
  • Gather will ask to use your microphone and camera.  You may need to shut down any other application using your microphone or camera while in the Gather space.
  • When you first visit the ASGCR Gather Space, you get to choose your avatar, the digital character that represents you in the Space. You may change this later.
  • Once you’ve customized your Gather avatar, enter your name.
  • Once you’re satisfied with your avatar and name, select Finish. When you’re ready to continue, select Join the Gathering.

For Presenters: How to present on Gather?

  • Posters will be pre-loaded into Gather prior to the start of the Symposium.
  • Presenters are asked to join Gather 10 minutes prior to the start of the poster sessions:
    • Wednesday, April 5th 10:10AM ET
    • Thursday, April 6th 10:10AM ET
  • Presenters should “stand near” their poster with their Gather avatar throughout the duration of the poster sessions.
  • Only participants in your poster space will be able to hear and see you.
  • Attendees in your poster space may interact with you via microphone or chat.

For Attendees: How to interact with the posters?

  • Refer to one of the Poster Location Kiosks in the main hall to locate a poster. Posters will be listed by room number. To view the information board, press the “x” key when standing near the board.
  • To interact with a poster, conference attendees will walk up to the poster using their keyboard arrows and press the “x” key to enter a full screen viewing.
  • While viewing the poster, you will also be able to interact with the presenter with your microphone or via the chat.
  • When your avatar is in the private space near a poster, all other attendees in that space will be able to see and hear you through your webcam and microphone. You will only be interacting with people in this space, and not the neighboring spaces.
  • To send a message, select the “To” drop-down list in the Chat panel and pick your recipient.
    • Everyone - Your message will be sent to every person currently in the Space.
    • Nearby - Your message will be sent to everyone who is standing within your interaction distance (within 5 tiles of you), or whoever you are in a private area with.
    • Individuals - Your message will be sent to the person you select.
